What I've Learned

Yara Edited (1).jpg

My past working experience entails being a salesmen. I've been a Sales Associate for a retail store, as well as a Junior Broker, selling solar panels by generating leads. Having experience with being a broker and sales associate, I’ve learned how to communicate with clients who were willing to pay a great deal for a new addition to their home for sustainable and environmental reasons - by investing in solar panels. It’s also taught me how to market myself, how to present myself verbally, and how to sell the ideas. My organization skills have also improved, as I have learned to take advantage of my given time to fulfil my dream of becoming a beneficial contribut-ing member of this large society.

Junior Broker, Solar Brokers Canada

May - August 2017

This job taught me the four-steps to selling, and had me memorize the pitch in order to be able to sell solar panels to home owners. I learned all about how important body language, the volume of your voice, and self-confidence are to making a sale. I was able to take these skills and make them work for me, and I've learned to always make sure to match your clients momentum. Energy is contagious.

Voting Clerk; Kelowna, BC

2013

This job was all about checking lists and organization. My job was to identify the voter when checking in with me, using a voting booklet, and make any changes to their profile, if necessary. I've learned to always double-check and triple-check lists for any errors.

I was able to communicate with teenagers and their parents to ensure growth, safety, and entertainment. top technical skills

All in ongoing progress.

innovative designs

Using Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and/or hand sketches.

I've been learning graphic design ever since secondary school, which has helped me fluently speak the language of both programs. In the initial stages of design, I use both Illustrator and Photoshop to come up with collages of the different ideas I come up with. From these images, I derive my final design. I decide to switch to hand sketches when I get the "light-bulb" moment, and the design is illustrated in my mind already. These programs also help me with presentation format and laying out the final panels.

Building Design

Using SketchUp, Vray, and/or Twilight.

Bringing my ideas to life, I've got experience using Google's program, SketchUp Pro. It's changed my perspective on the way i see buildings even when I walk down the street. I'm always thinking about buildings that look like they've been simply "built on sketch up". I feel like I'm walking in a digital reality. This helps me envision designs all day long! Drawing on SketchUp is definitely one of my hobbies, extracting through floor plans drawn on AutoCAD.

Sales-woman

Smart and Friendly

I've learned the 4-step pitching process of Sales, and how to control my thoughts when selling. This skill has also been worked upon through presentations in OCADU, which happened almost everyday. I've also been put on the spot a lot, where improvising in speech was necessary. I've learned that it's all about momentum, and once you've got that you can pretty much sell anything by manipulating your brain power into believing so. Through my experience, I've developed my communication skills, as well as my organizational skills to adjust to a positive and vibrating mentality.

presentation

Using InDesign, Illustrator, and Adobe Reader.

Form and function are two elements that are present in the planning process of every project that I takes on. It’s easy to build something pretty, but the real challenge lies in optimizing both the beauty and the functionality of newly designed structures. This skill set allows me to present my projects easily- where it's readable and visually pleasing for both my bosses and for the client's liking. Strong contrast with backgrounds is NOT something I like to do - simplicity is my forté.
